Comments on the final exam
The final will not be comprehensive. However there may be an essay question or two that will call on you to recall some things learned earlier in the course. The final will have several multiple choice questions (over the material since the final) and likely two of four essays. The essays will be given in advance (likely the last day of class). The essays you will write will be chosen randomly. So you will need to "prepare" for all 4 essays but wind up writing on two of them.
The final exam is scheduled for Friday, December 18, 10:15 - 12:15. Given the structure of the final it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to administer the exam at a different time. You have been aware from the beginning of the semester when the exam time is. (It was written in the syllabus and the semester's final exam schedule is always posted before the semester begins.) You have a responsibility for planning for the final at this time. Any request for changes will be met with resistance. You must document any reason for deviation from this plan (your obituary is probably the best documentation). In the event you come down with "flu like symptoms" you must realize that this is the last day of exams. I cannot give a late exam with a grade submitted by the deadline. Let's just hope this doesn't happen and if so it will be dealt with in an appropriate manner (which will intentionally be left vague for now).
