Participation credit

I was quite disturbed that attendance was so low today. Everyone who was in class today received one point of participation credit. Thanks to those who showed up.

Scores from Test 1

The following information is useful in interpreting your score on the first test (Feb 6).

average = 17.25 out of 25 (69%)
median = 17 (68%)
mode = 17 (68%)
stdev = 2.9 (11.7%)

The mean is rather low (target 80%), the standard deviation is slightly high (target 10%).
It appears the test was difficult for many of you, but with top scores of 24 and 23, the test does not appear unfair.

The following scale should be used merely as a guide for interpretation. I do not record grades, only raw scores (frequencies in parentheses) .

A: 20 and up (6)
B: 17 - 19.5 (14)
C: 14-16.5 (10)
D: 11 - 13.5 (3)
F: 10.5 and lower (0)

Note: problem 14 was tossed out due to sloppy wording. If you received a +1 on your score it was because it was initially marked incorrect. If you don't have a +1 on your score it was already counted as correct.

Good luck with future studying.
